Bar Mitzvah

So Saturday was the bar mitzvah. The ceremony was pretty boring, mostly singing and speech making. There were a bunch of rituals I didn't get (did they spit on the Torah?), but oh well. Attendance at the ceremony was pretty low. Me, Jess, Bevan, Mariah, Amanda, Jennifer, Cameron, Dan, Todd and Sam were the only people from our grade that I saw. I was a little worried that the party would be quite vacant- who's heard of a good 10 person party?

After the ceremony there was a little luncheon. They served bagels, fruit, bread, drinks and dessert. They also had little Dixie cups of wine (I think they represented the blood of Chirst). Anyway, Jess thought it was grape juice and drank it. This is how it went:
Jess: Why didn't you get one?
Me: Um, because it's wine.
Jess: No it's not. It's grape juice.
Me: Jess, it's wine.
Jess: Really?
Me: Yeah. Why would they serve grape juice?
Jess: I don't know....what should I do with it?
Me: You have to drink it.
Jess: Where's the trash can?
Me: Jess, you can't throw away the blood of Christ.

Anyway, she drank it and then just said "That was disgusting." Needless to say, we weren't exactly part of Ben's crowd so we just sort of mingled. Todd (who has a crush on Jess) went up to her and said "Did you have any wine?" She just nodded. Then he came up ten minutes later and said "Did you have any wine?" She nodded again. "How many?" She was like "Just one." Todd replied "Oh man! You should'a had at least a dozen!" I think he was a bit drunk.

We went back to my house at about 1. Since the party didn't start till 6:30, we went to see Red Eye. That is the best movie ever. Enough said.

We came back and decided on what we were going to wear. We put on all our make-up and fixed our hair. The bus for the party left at 6:30, and all the girls were in the front and the guys were in the back. We mostly talked to Dee and Jennifer. We got to the party and we all picked our seats at the tables. I was surprised because Joey Vizzuzi and Ryan Donovan were there. I didn't even know they were friends with Ben. They were some games and contests, and then we had dinner. I sat next to Bevan and Jess, across from Joey and Ryan. After dinner we started dancing. Wow, was that fun. I've never been to a party/dance outside of school, so we could dance however we wanted. I didn't know I could dance like that, or Jess for that matter. At the first slow dance, Bevan asked me to dance and Joey asked Jess to dance. I felt kind of bad for Ryan, because everyone sort of paired off without him. I'm sure he's not used to that since he's popular and all. Then there was a swing dancing contest. Jess and I kept our partners, and I didn't see Ryan.

We did some more fast dancing after that. You could tell Amanda likes Bevan because she kept trying to freak him. Todd kept coming behind me or Jess and tried to freak us. After a few more fast songs, there was another slow song. Scott Chessin came up to me and was like "If I asked you to dance, would you say yes?" I thought it was cute so I just said sure. Jess danced with Joey again. Then there was a limbo contest. After a few more songs, Jess and I went to the bathroom and she just said "I like Joey." So I asked Bevan to find out who Joey liked, and it turned out that he liked Jess too, so he asked her out. It was very cute. But Jess and Joey were both a lot more confident/outgoing at the party than they are at school, so I wonder if they'll ever actually talk again.

Pretty soon after that the DJ announced that the last song was about to play (it was a slow one). Guess who Jess danced with? Yeah, Joey- they even freaked for a minute. Anyway Ryan came up to me and asked me to dance, and I said yes. I really want to like him now, but I know that we're from different social groups so I figured he'd never talk to me again. All his friends say he likes me now, but I'm not sure. We'll just have to see what happens at school.

Overall, I had a blast at the party. It was so much fun!
